Early Morning Blaze

At approximately 0541hrs on Tuesday September 14th the Oyster Bay Fire Department and Atlantic Steamer Fire Co’s were alerted for a report of a house fire at 92 Sunken Orchard lane, off of Berryhill Road. The first chiefs were advised that an occupant may have been trapped inside the residence.

The first chief to arrive was Oyster Bay Fire Department chief of department Charles Gladd who established a command post and transmitted a “working fire” and shortly after a Signal 10 (confirmed structural house fire).

The first due Engine OBFD E-552 stretched an attack line into the front door of the residence while OBFC Asst Chief DeCarolis, and ASFC Asst Chiefs Schadler and Wallas searched the fire floor, and floors above the fire for the missing occupant. Shortly after it was discovered that the occupant was away on vacation and not inside the residence.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Nassau County Fire Marshals office.
