Fast Moving Fire In Syosset

At 20:00 hrs on Thursday April 14, 2005, the Oyster Bay Fire Department was alerted to respond to a working house fire in Syosset. Tower Ladder 554 responded from Oyster Bay Fire Headquarters, along with Chiefs DeCarolis and Bellissimo. Due to the wood frame construction and common attic space, the fire was able to spread quickly prior to notification of the fire department. Initial units on scene from Syosset mounted an aggressive interior attack and were able to contain the fire to three units in the Hidden Ridge Condominium Complex off of Jericho Turnpike. Members from Oyster Bay placed ground ladders and performed ventilation operations inside and out. Firefighters from East Norwich, Jericho, Hicksville, Plainview, Westbury, and Melville were also on the scene assisting Syosset. There were no reported civilian injuries and only minor injuries to firefighters. Members were on scene for about two hours.
