OBFD Lends a Helping Hand

On Sunday November 26, 2007, the Oyster Bay Fire Department had their hands full! Chief Frank Mantegari III, Captain Robert W. McEvoy, Lieutenant Roy Johanson, Ex-Chief Tom Reardon, Firefighters: Mike Barbarto Jr., Mike Fallacara, Craig Barber, Mike Scheck, CarolAnn Hosey, Ashley Quartarolo, Alison Johanson, Wendy Niceberg, William Kelly, and Robert Bellissimo, took time from their weekend schedules to help the Oyster Bay Chamber of Commerce set up lights on the town Christmas tree located in downtown Oyster Bay at the Gazebo.

The crew started around 10:30am and finished close to 1:30pm. All of the strands came minus the lights, so as a team, we had to individually insert each light bulb into its socket. After doing so, we then tested the strands and then attached them to make it one long strand to drape around the tree. To aid us while trying to get the lights onto the tree, we used Tower Ladder 554 for the higher parts, and ground ladders for the lower parts. At one point, a few members crawled into the tree to secure the strands of lights!

Before leaving, all of the strands of lights were tested again to assure it would work correctly on the night of the tree lighting, which was held on Sunday, December 9th.

On the night of the tree lighting, the Oyster Bay Fire Department arrived with Tower Ladder 554, Rescue 5526 and many members to show their support to the town and without any problems, the tree lighted beautifully!
