The Oyster Bay Fire Department has taken delivery of a 2006 Polaris Ranger 6×6. This unit was designed by Kimtek Corp out of Vermont. It has been designated 5512 and will respond to fire and EMS emergencies in the Oyster Bay Fire Protection District. The unit has an EMS skid that allows for stowing of Medical bags and transportation of patients and crew in a safe manner. The firefighting skid features 100 gallons of tank water with a high pressure pump with 2 auxiliary discharges and 75 feet of booster hose on a reel. This unit is the first of its kind on Long Island. The Polaris Ranger features an industry leading 1750 lbs payload capacity with an outstanding 7.2 inches of ground clearance allowing the Ranger to get where others cannot. The Ranger also features an on-demand true 6 wheel drive for off-road situations. The unit is equipped with Whelan LED lighting and a Whelan Siren Package. It also has a Warn multi-mount remote winch. The Fire Department plans on deploying 5512 for the many special events that are held in the Oyster Bay community that make it hard for full-size vehicles to maneuver through town.
