On Saturday October 15th and Sunday October 16th the Oyster Bay Hamlet played host to the 22nd annual Oyster Fest. With over 100 Vendors in the arts and crafts area and a number of different organizations selling all types of food, this annual festival brings hundreds into the Oyster Bay community. The Oyster Bay Fire Departments prepare for the worst while hoping for the best. On Saturday the Oyster Bay Fire Department received assistance from the Bethpage Fire Department, Glen Cove EMS, and Syosset Fire Department with ambulances. The Syosset Fire Department and East Norwich Fire Department also provided Oyster Bay with the service of their All-Terrain Rescue Vehicles that can easily maneuver through the large crowds seen in town during the Oyster Fest. On Sunday the Oyster Bay Fire Department received assistance from the Hicksville Fire Department, Cold Spring Harbor Fire Department and East Norwich Fire Department with ambulances. East Norwich also provided their All-Terrain Vehicle for Sunday’s festivities.
During the festival the Oyster Bay Fire Department’s have stand by crews in the fire house at all times to ensure immediate fire or medical emergency response. An ambulance is also relocated to the festival to ensure that any aided cases from the festival can be handled. Overall the Oyster Bay Fire Department transported 6 patients who sustained injuries while at the festival while handling a number of injuries that did not require transport. In addition to festival related injuries the Oyster Bay Fire Department’s handled 5 other incidents in the district.
