On Sunday November 27th at 18:18 hrs. The Oyster Bay Fire Department received a call for a report of Wires and a Transformer burning on Spring Street between Orchard and West Main Street. Upon arrival a request for LIPA to respond forthwith for a transformer and pole on fire in close proximity to homes on Orchard Street was requested through Nassau County Fire Communications. Oyster Bay Engine 558, Tower Ladder 554, and Ambulance 5516 responded. Engine 8 responded from South Street onto Orchard and secured a water source. Ladder 4 responded from Lexington Avenue onto Orchard Street and awaited orders. Ambulance 5516 established EMS command at the corner of Orchard Street and Prospect Place. Members performed evacuations of the homes in proximity to the burning transformer and pole; they also established a perimeter to ensure safety. LIPA responded and isolated the power to the area. All Oyster Bay Fire Department units were released within an hour with no reported injuries.
