On Friday, March 4th at 01:05 hrs. The Oyster Bay Fire Department and Atlantic Steamer Fire Company were alerted for a reported House Fire on Tennis Court Road in Cove Neck. Oyster Bay Fire Department Engine 558 and Tower Ladder 554, and Atlantic Steamer Engine 559 were the first due apparatus on scene. Heavy Smoke was visible from the eaves of the home upon arrival. OBFD Chief DeCarolis, 1st Assistant Chief Frank Mantegari and Atlantic Steamer 1st Assistant Chief Chiristian Mercadante located a fire in the walls on the second floor with extension of fire into the attic space. Members from Engine 8 stretched a 2-inch hand line into the 2nd floor of the residence while ASFC and OBFD firefighters were able to open up the walls, gain entry into the attic space and extinguish the fire. ASFC Chief Frank Ozol was in command aided by Chief DeCarolis,1st. Asst. Chief Mantegari Jr. and Acting 2nd Asst. Chief Bellissimo of OBFD and Assistant Chiefs Mercadante and Warner from ASFC. Members were on scene for approximately 2 hours.
Although there were no reported injuries, damage was sustained to Ladder 554 due to poorly maintained and nearly-inaccessible driveways in the area. Residents are reminded that they have a responsibility to plow and maintain their driveways and maintain sufficient access in the event of an emergency.
